Welcome
Welcome to my FD3s Rx-7 blog.
I will be endeavouring to keep you informed about Japanese developments in relation to the Rx-7. After 18 years of FD life there is still new development taking place and the community is actually getting stronger. Demand for Spirit-R and late model Rz variants is increasing and the prices of these beasts are finally starting to drop, now around the high 3,000,000 yen mark. However the prices of Ex-Demo cars are also in this price range so there are some awesome cars out there. A cheap ass FD for a project can be bought from 300000 in Japan and a good tuned car can start as little as 1.2M.
Revolution, RE-Amemiya, Fujita Engineering, R-Magic and Pan Speed are still focussing on the FD as the performance rotary benchmark and tuning them to perform. Street versions lapping Tsukuba circuit just shy of 1 minute and hard tuned circuit versions from R-Magic recently joining the 55 second bracket and eclipsing that 56 obtained by RE-Amemiya some years ago.
Competition is hotting up and the visual appearance of the FD is also heating up. Veilsides Fortune FD, Feed's new Afflux V model and the Often VIP car inspired styling of RE-Amemiya continue to push the boundaries until Mazda commits to the new Rx-7.
When this happens maybe the FD will be forgotten and the market will be flooded with cheap, awesome machines.
Well 7/7/2007 came and went and a new Rx7 was not announced but there are substatial rumours of the next Rx7 team being recruited maybe for a 2011 release. But until then, there is a lot of life left for the humbling rear wheel drive FD3s.
2006 was a crazy year for the FD as it took out the class wins in both the Super GT and the Super Taikyu Endurance races among others like Gykhana and Touge battles. These days the rotary is a reliable car that when tuned and maintained can be a very rewarding machine for those who love the challenge of driving.
2007 and 8 were a bit less inspiring. Some round wins but no major championships except Gykhana.
I am back living in Japan now and my ultimate dream car for street and fast driving on circuit came and went. The "global warming" crisis pushing up gas price caused a sale. Now suddenly no one is concerned about that and the financial crisis sees Gas 50% lower again.
2009.
