RE-Xtreme Yokomo Drift
WHY is there an AE86 on my BLOG ????!?!??!?!Well its because I couldn't get an FD Rx7 Yokomo Drift Package ... I went to RC Champ in Akihabara last week and was totally confused by the selection they had and all the options for the car, so I went home to research. When I went back they were SOLD OUT of both the Apexi FD and the RE-Amemiya FD! So I bought the Droop AE86 and another Zero One FD Rx7 Body.
I just finished painting the FD. But first I will destroy the AE86 while I learn to drift. The build was easy. Just follow the instructions and all parts are marked in separate bags. Straight forward.
I gave it a whirl and she drifts cool. takes about 2 batteries worth to be able to drift with so small consistency. But I will need to practice more.
Stay tuned for crazy drift stories and more posts of the FD body upon completion. Needs a GT Wing me thinks.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2007

The covers came off for another year and in D1, Amemiya will use this car as their drift warrior. It has the rear end from last years red TAS car with the centre rotor styling.

The Porsche lights are replaced by IPF beams with a carbon surround and the carbon/IPF light combo sits in the rear also. Enkei GTC-01 are used all around and the car is otherwise the same as last year.

This year has proved that THE FD IS NOT DEAD! In fact it is very much alive! With 16 examples on show it was one of the more prolific for tuners.

Mind you 5 were from RE-Amemiya including the D1SL 7.

URAS had their new kit, but i think they couldn't decide on a colour in time. The flat black prototype effect was used like a gt-c car and it had a good effect.

Rolling on RE-30's from Rays that were on every second car at the show, it looked the part.

Can you pick the headlights...... no chance...... still no....? Well the KS Auto car with Burnout kit was equipped with what look to me were nissan march headlights, but I am probably wrong. A nice effect but we will see if it makes production.

RE-Amemiya's new white production model SPL was on show. Super Greddy II

The rear is ugly but the fenders are cool. Now a mix and match addition.

TOUGE MONSTER!

Satoru Works makes drift Knuckles for the FD. Better have Wide fenders though.

One of the replica fortunes.

There are many.

LookKing FD

Wheels are on the large size.
R-Magic Pink 4

GT300 car

Feed had the new production ready Afflux V
With moulded lights. Not the sagaris versions on the prototype.

Auto craft had their Rx8 and Rx7 at the show. The car is in race spec with all the items you require to go fast in winter. These monster V-Mounts are nigh for the air-conditioner.

A new light kit was their hot item. Very similar to the RE-A kit with a little smaller lights.

Custom V-Mount using ARC components and Feed engine internals.
Interior is awesome with a custom dash utilising Defi guages and some blue lighting. Tan suede and a huge ICE system round of this all-rounder rolling on 17" T57Pro Gram lights with the Titanium coat.
Oh-Gr8 complete with studded Bride seats, and another 8. A big display from the GT champion. Ama-san was also doing interviews at the mazda stand talking about his Cosmo restoration project.
Seats are for the sadist in us all.

Merry Xmas 2006
Bet you didn't know Santa really delivers by FD Rx7. Caught here in preparation for his delivery schedule. He managed to get some sponsorship from Apexi however since no-one will see him on the night, thats a bit redundant.Wednesday, 8 November 2006

Aoshima FD Kits
There are a couple of new Rx7 Plastic models out and these are the new releases from Aoshima based on the RE-Amemiya drift car used in the D1 championship. There are two versions of this kit 2004 and 2005 which has a different front bar, different lights and stickers. An S-Package Kit also uses the 2005 front and AD-GT kit but includes the lights from the 2005 model and the full interior. The RE AD Kit is well shaped and the quality of the kit is superb. For those of you familiar with the other FD kits from Aoshima such as the C-West or Veilside kits, this one is mostly different. Many of the parts have been revised, with the body itself is a whole new shape.
The wheels have changed to Fujimi style female mounting points and the body panels do not match the older vehicles. Which is a shame. But you can build it with the old rim style as parts are included. Which is good for me as I love the GTR Nismo rims from Tamiya.
But the D1 cars also have full interior with cage and other nice items. Wheels are Enkei as seen on the Re-Amemiya drift car, but are not really big enough. The drift car runs 17"s and 18"s so that cant be replicated but they are good looking rims. It will also be interesting to see how low I can get his car as the oringinal positioning seems very high as is usual with these kits. I have a tutorial on my old site and the method should still apply.A good kit and the body went together absolutely perfectly. 2000 yen or 1500 if you know where to buy... Yodobashi Akihabara has a huge new model section thats very cheap.

Hakkone - Izu
A glorious sunny was perfect for the cruise. We tagged along with the GTR boys on a hike from Tokyo to the Izu penninsular. We started the day from the Hakone Turnpike which is an awesome wide road with some amazing bridges that span the valleys and provide a view to the coast, If you dare to look.
The cruise back to Tokyo met its usual traffic problems but it helps you wind down after punishing your body in the Bride seats. On the Mountain Touge, it doesn't matter what car you drive. But we all know some are just made for it. The Fd is one such machine.

Single Twins
Lets face it, the standard Fd is no ballistic missile, but it can hold its own against other unmodified sports cars. However, its not long after purchase that many owners start longing for more oomph. Few people are ready to spend a huge load of cash and generally progress through a boost up scenario adding inter-cooler, exhaust and computer.Soon after this, the search for more power bites again and the only option left is a turbo upgrade. So deciding how far you want to take your Fd, should be thought about up front to prevent spending twice on similar components like a header ( dump ) pipe that will be useless in a single turbo setup, like wise, airfilters are throw away items for a single upgrade, but do you need to go single?
The standard twin turbine setup on the Fd is not bad, it definately has advantages in anti-lag spooling and also some drawbacks, like the nest of wires and troublesome control mechanisms, but the major one is a maximum efficient power output of around 350hp. If you dont want to redesign your engine bay for a single, you have a few options when searching for a litle more power in this department. A rebuilt turbine with replacement compressor wheels can be performed. Knight Sports goes a little further with their own design twin turbo replacement good for approx 420hp. This is as much as most single turbo conversions.
What about Single Turbos?!?! With advances in turbo design and knowhow that surrounds them, a 450hp single can provide good power across a wide power band or you can opt for the laggy & peaky, huge power options up to 650hp from your 13b. You'll have to spend up big on ancilliaries like fuel pumps, injectors, wastgate, manifold, filter, exhaust header and a bunch of other items that probably wont match anymore, but the less clutter in the engine bay and the simple design could mean less trouble in the future if you dont go too mad.So whatever you end up with under the bonnet, do the hard yards first, drive one of each and feel the difference yourself. You may decide a single turbo is indeed over-rated. But for me, Ill have a 1000hp triple HKS GT2835 sequential setup on a 20b. Now that should be enough!!!
