Options - Engines

The rotary made the Rx7 what it is, so it is somewhat sacrilige to remove the engine that the car came with. However with people's preferences and the desire for more reliable engineering. Sometimes we can forgive thise that defy Mazda's vision for their pure sports machine.

13b NA - Rip off the turbos and what do you have? A car capable of entering different classes of motorsport whilst retaining the superb handling characteristics of the original car. There have been a few created by AR-F in particular who like the screaming PP or large ported NA Rotary sound. You can also save a bit of weight too and build an engine that revs over 10000rpm.

20b 3rotor NA - Super GT created the legend for the 300hp 3 Rotor that is reliable and fast. The extra torque gives the car the grunt it needs and the rest is history. The sound from these cars is awesome as they rev.

20b 3rotor Turbo - Why? Because you can. With applications ending up with 800hp, this is the crazy end of street tuning. Something you cant drive every day. Pettit Racing produce a 500rwhp car for sale in the states. Grunt straight from the showroom floor. Lets find some tyres than can handle it.

4Rotor. Scoot has made the streetable 4 rotor a possibility however, you dont see many. This is the ultimate rotary configuration with LeMans heritage. Custom workshops more recently produce 4 rotor engines only for drag racing as 1000hp+ applications are possible.

V8. The small block V8 engines are some of the most reliable around. With lazy revs producing big horsepower, they have become famous in MX-5 conversions and more recently in the Rx7 as prices drop and engines expire. companies in the US have conversion hits readily available.

SR20- Typically, these engine swaps occur in the drifting fraternity as cars are destroyed, then joined together again. Like the Sil-80 Silvia, I guess you call them an SRx-7.

Cosworth- The latest creations are a little more left field as the Rx7 takes hold in countries where existing technology and tuning knowhow exist. The UK is one location where things maybe a little different.

Veilside Fortune #2

The Veilside Fortune #2 was a bit of an inspiration. This image from Newera Imports is available on many desktop sites around the world. But the rest of the images are not.

With the success of the Maroon TAS winning Veilside kit #1, Veilside wanted to promote thier cars as much as they could.

The lines of a Veilside fortune body kit are unmistakable. but there is a lot of of work to get the car looking this smooth.

When the work is performed by veilside themselves you can see hoe good the total result is.

Interior and exterior are finished to perfection. However, I must admit, Veilside seating position in an FD is less that perfect.

But the body and rear especially are finished to perfection. When people see the price of veilside products, they rarely think of the double price in manpower required to achieve this level of finish.

So when these complete cars have been offered in Japan from Veilside themselves for 4~7 million, I think in Japan that these complete cars are still unbelievably cheap on the world scene!

Many still try to say... "It's just an RX7" but it's much more than that. FF Tokyo Drift propelled these cars to another level.

The work that's required to convert one of these is emense and they do become something of a larger stature.
335 rear tyres place a car in another realm.

Newera was involved to help with sending this car to Europe and the Paris Tuning Show and the above pics were just before departure from Japan.

"Miguel was contacted by a french magazine called ADDX to see if he could help find a centre piece show car, it had to be one of the most impressive looking cars in Japan to be used at their stand at the Paris Tuning
Show on the 24th February. After lots of talks Miguel managed to arange with Veilside to ship a Fortune RX7 over to France to appear in the show ... only one problem was that the only Fortune car in existence was being built to be shown at the 2005 Auto Salon

so ... what did Veilside do ? .. they built another one in an incredibly short space of time.

The car was scheduled to ship on the 12th January .. Miguel and the Newera Japan guys turned up at Veilside the night before to see the car in pieces .. so with sleeves rolled up and everyone mucked in for a long night .. it was completed literally just as the transporter truck turned up to collect it in the morning !!!! " ...Steve Brooks

The car was also featured in Many UK and Paris magazines before return.

TAS 2005

So we had thought we had seen the end of the Fd. Amemiya came out with the GT replica, Time attack machine and few other incarnations to tease us again. Pan speed continued to push for top honours as it placed more emphasis on its new circuit spec car and loads of new parts. Tamon Design released Maruta's 7 and it looked so different beside the similar Scoot 4 Rotor and even moreso beside the Mid Night Boost up black beast prepped by RE-Amemiya.

Mazda even came back with the circuit trial attacker. Another evolution of the Rx7 that begs Mazda to replace. Grenade returned with their now D1 car and Cars Factory showed off their Purple Widebody options. Blitz re-displayed their Drag Fd as it appeared with new engine specs. New D1 machines from Asamoto and Suenaga appeared alongside Imamura's Vertex Ridge wide body equipped car sporting the new gram lights wheels.

Veilside released the awesome Fortune Fd to momentus award as it took best of show honours. the dramatic sraging also helped its devilish combat appeal. How many Fd's are still around you say, BN Sports split theirs with an Rx8 and phoenix plugged in a SR20DEtt 4 banger.

But for me, the Fujita road going cruiser stood out as the car with style and purpose. A true evolution of the Fd's original shape and refined into a road going mauler. Nothing overstated, except the 19" Advan RSII Rims... No, Just right.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2004 - Part 1

Veilside D1 Sakura Version was a star!

These must be some of the largest wheels you can squash under the rear.

Up front theres a boost UP engine and quite large FMIC.

The result is a girls cruiser with AT transmission and Air bag hand bags.

It's a pity the front of the FD can't take a deep dish rim.

Cause they look kind of rediculous.

compared to the beautiful rear.

At least the girls like it.

And I like the girls... Amemiya Street Mu with Facer 9  and some old school.

Side Steps and rear  fender arches match the scoop rear wing.

HID and LED.

I hate this front on the super GT car. The last we would see of the Stock Chassis machine.

Many years of evolution.

Steet Beat 7 looks much better in green.

Remenants of yellow and blue remain.

Side mirrors are a good idea, but do they work?

I don't think we knew what an influence this car would have by this stage. Just the Boost Up SPL that would become the Touge Monster! MAO!

This car needs no intro. Simply the best! IMO!

R- Magic introduced a new street N1 package with the new bonnet!

 And the rotary Skull

Pink Flames

Same old side fenders though. Aiz are cool.

Their main draw was the RX8 from Autobacs so wide you could do wild things in it (especially with her)

Part 2 is here.

Tokyo Auto Salon 2004 - Part 2

Me likes the KSP 9 Second Street car.

Some cars can pull off purple.

This one is low in show tune.

With the scoot bonnet removed, theres more to see.

700hp from a 13B but the twin tubs are cool

KSP rear wing is interesting and flattens it out.

Another purple AR-F time attack car.

Direzza here also makes this car very similar from a glance but very different up close.

Got fuel.

FEAST your eyes on FEAST!

This Time Attacker has a massive wide body

I love the engine bay on this. the special vent for the turbo is interesting and the titanium strut bar is very substantial.

Racing Hart rims complete the picture.

GT Wing from C-West ? I don't know, the end plates are, however the frofile is different.

Fujita Streeter.

complete.

Maybe the best looking FD3s off the rack.

Advan RG + Neova... Here's a tip. Don't pick your offset from a TAS car.

Feed Stickers.

Feed fenders never looked much better.

Scoot 4 Rotor. Masterpiece

Interior is also very nice with flocked dash.

Tamon design is very nice.

Nice lights. RE-Amemiya base.

Part 3 is here.
