I first met Koseki-san at the 2004 Tokyo Auto Salon, he was installing an incredibly oversize gear knob to his 4 rotor FD RX-7, purely for attention. This is the comical side of a man with a true passion and devotion to the rotary. Through his competent English speaking, from time spent developing suspension with Formula 3000 and Formula 1 teams, I discovered part of this man’s drive. His desire to have the definitive RX-7 is something he has spent a lot of time thinking about.

He was really hooked when he was asked to prepare rotary engines for Japans touring car championship later forming Scoot as his tuning business for RX-7’s. When Mazda discontinued the production run of the FD RX-7, Koseki-san was thinking about what the new RX-7 might be like and how much better it would need to be. One influence was the Mercedes SLK and the other, being the Le-Mans winning, Mazda 787b, with its 4-rotor naturally aspirated engine. The combination of the two results in arguably, the ultimate road going RX-7.

How do you start to build the ultimate RX-7? Well, you take one that already does 330kph and pull it apart and throw away the engine. This car started as one that was involved in the New Zealand top speed trial a few years ago. The car was designed by Koseki to be a one-off design and there were no plans to produce the body kit at the time but later the body builder Tamon has gone on to do so. Minus the half doors and light kit.

The 4-rotor is based on two 12a engines fused together. 24b?
