Tsukuba Lap Times

Tsukuba is used as Japan's Performance Bench Mark. The 2000m Course is a tight and fast challenging course where usually a sub 1minute lap is considered fast.

How fast is an normal FD on street tyres and a PRO driver.

Comparing

Comparing times at Tsukuba is only relevant for about a One to Two year period. Advancements in Tyre technology account for '01~'02 seconds per lap, Aero has also advanced.

To compare Time Attack, Street and and Race cars is also difficult.

Check this Champions Battle in 1997. My favourite Best Motoring Race.



In 1997 Castrol GT Supra was restricted 430ps. 0~400 was 10.4s Tsukuba dissapears in 57s on Slicks. (Many will say you can do that time in a tuned FD these days.) In 2009 Super GT has 500hp Slicks are 2 seconds a lap faster and aero would probably bring it up to 53~54ish using the HKS Evo as a guide with '53.999.

To compare is best to use common sense.

The Ring

"The ring" is a track steeped in legend surrounding Formula 1. As the F1 cars became too fast, the track became too dangerous. But somehow these days, it's not too dangerous for you and I. So Any old hoon can head to the ring, strap on some basic safety gear and go for an all out time attack on this lengthy track that snakes it way through the picturesque German countryside.

The Nurburg ring allows users to buy lap tickets and head onto the circuit a lot like your local McDonalds drive through. 1 please... 10 seconds later your surpassing the speed limit and heading down towards the half way point at the carousel, travelling over 300kph+ straights and tight twisting, undulations.

Is it the ultimate road? Well it's arguably one of them. The shear fact that no-one is coming the other way and you don't need to worry about the cops is enough for me to say its the ultimate road.

As you complete your run on this awesome track. You may have the chance to paint your name on the circuit. Its one of the trademarks of the place. As you drive over everyones calling cards, think about the countless others who have driven the Nurburg ring. Maybe one day I'll get there to paint it in person, until then its PS2 for me.

Tsukuba Circuit

Tsukuba Circuit is the bench mark of Japan. Buy GT4 for the Playstation2 and check it out. This is where any lap time compared among the Japanese tuning community will immediately give you an idea of a cars true performance and gain respect. For an Fd with around 400hp and well tuned suspension and S-tyres you would be looking at around the 59 second range if you install a professional driver thats lapped Tsukuba about 1000000 times. For the rest of who pull up and hack out a few laps. We may use these as our ultimate goals but will never really get close.

Here is a sample reference of real FD reference times at Tsukuba. Many of these have been set with low fuel limits and qualifying tyres.

The best of the all out race cars is the Pan Speed 2006 Time Attack Fd 56"800 closely followed by the Re-Amemiya 2002 Time Attack Fd at 56"863. The R-Magic Pinky 4 Fd hit 57" but is aiming for the 55 second range. Feast regularly attend and got their blue GT Fd into the 58"s
For the road cars, the Fujita single turbo Fd sits near the top with a recent 59"352. Many of RE-Amemiya cars also sit in this range from 59" - 1'01". The T78 equipped Greddy G9 hit 1'01" flat in 2002. The Revolution boost-up Fd recently logged a 1'01"375 so its all pretty close and whether you have 450hp or 350hp there are many factors affecting times.

Off the Shelf from mazda 2002 Mazdaspeed BSpec FD 1'07" without S-Tyres. Still pretty impressive. Slight boost up, shocks and and S-tyres should yeild around 1'04" and add a full GT wing and body kit should get you in the 1'03 region. Add some more serious boost brings you 1'01' and from there it gets seriously competitve and the "street tune" is somehow forgotten.

Circuit Meet - Mobara

Mobara is a cool little track that's a drifters dream. Corner after corner of tight and flowing sideways feast. This was the first time I took the FD on the track and I wanted to get aquainted with its characteristics, so I chose the drift class. I wouldn't have to worry about Atsushi's 500hp GTR bearing down on me as he goes for a quick lap.

There were a few FDs there on the day including Sanai works who doing some tuning on their Fighting FD. 2 in drift class including myself and 2 in circuit class. This track is more fun I think for drifting as it doesn't really have a straight to get any real speed and you spend most of the lap in 2nd anyway. Atsushi's (Nishiki Suspension Tuning) GTR was really unsuited for this track.

A fun little day in Chiba.
